World Book Day

World Book Day is one of the biggest days of the year that is dedicated to celebrating books and reading. Biblionef, with the assistance of the Department of Social Development, have identified 30 Children’s Homes that are in need of appropriate children’s books. This World Book Day, we have invited representatives from the first 10 Homes to join us in celebrating this day by receiving their donation of new home language storybooks for their children. Today, a total of 905 children will have access to 905 new, beautifully illustrated books that contain stories they can relate to.

All of the Homes are in areas throughout the Western Cape and will be receiving storybooks in the children’s home language of isiXhosa and Afrikaans, including English. The children attending these homes are from the ages of 0 – 18 and Biblionef has selected age appropriate storybooks for their reading pleasure.

It is Biblionef’s belief that children deserve to have books available to them in many different situations and presented in creative ways. Giving the children from the Homes access to new books that can be read for pleasure rather than their everyday school books, we believe, will be able to spark a passion for reading within them.
