Books and toys to 50 ECD Centre’s!

Biblionef has partnered with the City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services Community Development (CoJ LCID) for a second time! (Read about our first partnership here)

With the amazing support from our Funder, Wings of Support, and together with the CoJ LCID, we were able to bring new home language storybooks and educational toys (posters, puzzles and posters) to 50 informal Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre’s in Johannesburg! Each Centre received a roller box containing 50 storybooks ranging from isiZulu, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana, Afrikaans to isiXhosa and included some in English. Each ECD also received 11 educational toys.

A remarkable 2500 new storybooks have been donated to 2697 children in areas within Johannesburg!

The City of Johannesburg’s Growth and Development Strategy (2040) supports the ECD strategy of increasing literacy, skills and lifelong learning. Their Campaign ties in perfectly with our vision and it therefore allowed us to rally together and form a partnership to work toward the same goal of providing these children with the best possible developmental start to life.

Through the CoJ LCID’s outreach arm, Ready to Read, these ECD Centre’s will receive basic training on how to effectively use the books and educational toys donated by Biblionef.
