Biblionef was approached by a member of the Rally to Read Steering Committee to assist with their Rally in KwaZulu-Natal.
About Rally to Read
Rally to Read is a rural literacy development project that is managed and implemented by the READ Educational Trust for the last 22 years. The Programme is funded by Individuals and companies who collaboratively contribute towards the costs of the provision of books as supplied by Reading Matters and toward a teacher training support programme implemented by Read. The teacher training support programme is a 3-year programme with the focus changing from Grade R and Foundation Phase (year 1) Intermediate Phase (year 2) and then to the provision of materials/ training for all grades, and as it suits the needs of each school (year 3).
The partnership between Biblionef and Rally to Read
This Rally will be supporting 12 Primary Schools in the Northern Drakensberg area of KwaZulu-Natal. Upon Ms Richardson’s request, Biblionef has decided to be part of this project by donating 1 200 new isiZulu and English storybooks to the 12 schools. Rally to Read has ensured us that the books will be used optimally and its longevity maximized. A full-time and experienced Read trainer will be providing training support to the teachers at these schools, for the next 3 years as part of the teacher training support programme.
We are extremely excited about this partnership and look forward to and growing it from strength to strength!
