The 8th September was declared International Literacy Day by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1965 and has been celebrated annually ever since.
To commemorate this special day, we have made a MASSIVE donation to the Cofimvaba District of Eastern Cape. The library advisor for Cofimvaba asked if we could assist some of their schools with a donation of books – the schools in this area are extremely under-resourced and are especially lacking books in the learner’s mother tongue of isiXhosa.
We have now donated 100 class readers and storybooks to 100 schools from Circuits within the Cofimvaba District. This translates to a total of 10 000 new books to the value of R 325 000 being donated to these schools!
A huge thank you to SWE (Siyanqoba Worldwide Express) for ensuring that the donation reached the Eastern Cape Department of Education safely! SWE covered the courier cost and ensured that the books reached its destination before International Literacy Day.
