34 schools in Limpopo receive new books

Biblionef has donated 6, 800 new storybooks to 34 Primary Schools in the Waterberg area of Limpopo. 80% of the donation was in the children’s home language of Sepedi and the rest in English. This donation is valued at R340, 000.

Two of Biblionef’s Project Assistants, Nastassja Benjamin and Nokuthula Mbeyane, traveled to Limpopo to hand deliver the donation of storybooks to the teachers of the 34 schools. The Project Assistants were able to carry out a Storytelling Workshop with each of the schools. The workshop took place over three days with schools being grouped depending on the area in which they were situated.

“These stories are beautifully told, a rich layer of soul food!” – Jessica from Save the Waterberg Rhino

During the workshops, the Project Assistants were able to share valuable information with the teachers about creating a love for reading amongst their learners. The Assistants also spoke to the teachers about the importance of reading and the crucial role teachers play in getting their learners excited about reading. The emphasis during the workshops was on how to make reading fun for learners.  Ms Mbeyane captivated the teacher’s by demonstrating exciting ways in which storytelling can be done. All of the teachers reported that they felt extremely motivated after witnessing how exciting storytelling can be.

A huge thank you to Save the Waterberg Rhino and the Lapalala Wilderness School for sponsoring the travel and accommodation for our staff.
